Naturally, the last few years has put an increased focus on staying healthy whilst you travel. We’ve highlighted a few of the things you can do before and during your flight with MERLIN1 to ensure you stay healthy and well whilst you fly.
Due to the lack of humidity and lower air pressure in the cabin when taking a flight, it’s not uncommon to experience dehydration on board, especially when travelling longer distances. To keep hydrated, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the flight. The Aerospace Medical Association recommends that you drink approximately 8 ounces of water for every hour you’re in the air – we’ll have plenty of water readily available for you on board.
Wash your hands
Hand washing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of germs – it’s recommended you wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. It’s always a good idea to pop a hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol in your carry-on bag too. You can be rest assured that our cabins are cleaned to the highest standard, and when you travel by private jet your risk of infection is less than when travelling on commercial flights with other passengers.
Take the time to get some rest
Are you in need of some well-deserved shuteye? If so, why not take some time out on the jet to relax and rest, and even have a nap if you need to. When you fly with MERLIN1, your experience will be a truly peaceful, recharging experience. Passenger wellbeing is key, which is why, on board, you will find everything you need to switch off, and our highly trained crew will be on hand to deliver a tailored experience for you and your travel companions.
When you’re flying, one thing we strongly recommend doing is to move regularly. Longer flights increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) for some passengers, so it’s important to stretch and move whilst you’re in the air.
In order to fight those feelings of fatigue and stiffness from sitting down for too long, we’ve got some easy exercises to do before you fly and on board that will help to get your body moving and reduce the risk of DVT:
- Ankle circles: Lift your legs up one at a time and circle your feet from the ankle. Perform this movement clockwise first, and then anticlockwise, 10 times on each side.
- Neck roll: Keeping your shoulders relaxed, drop your ear towards your shoulder, then gently roll your head from side to side, at least 10 times on each side.
- Knee lift: From sitting position and with your knees bent, slowly and gently lift your knees upwards towards you, one leg at a time. Repeat 10 times on each leg.
- Shoulder rolls: Sit in a relaxed position with your arms at your side. Slowly roll your shoulders forward five times. Reverse the motion and repeat five additional times.
- Legs raises: Raise your heels, leaving your toes on the floor. Following this, raise and lower your toes also. Repeat 10 times.
Aim to repeat all of the above every thirty minutes to one hour throughout the flight. On MERLIN1’s private charter jets, your cabin will be your home away from home, meaning you can carry out these exercises in a large, private space.
